Staying the course: 403 students supported from primary school to university
October 2026
In Cambodia, many students leave school not because they cannot learn, but because school costs more than their family can bear. Bayon School's answer is to stay beside each student year after year — today, 403 of them.
Support that follows the student
The programme accompanies young people from primary school through secondary school and university. All 403 students are enrolled in partner public schools in Siem Reap and Run Ta Ek, and receive scholarships, school supplies, uniforms, educational and hygiene kits and, when needed, a bicycle to reach class.
Health, meals and tutoring
Each student has a yearly health check-up and personalized medical follow-up. Balanced meals support healthy growth, and tutoring classes give extra help to those who are struggling, so no one is left behind quietly.
Keeping families on side, and looking ahead
Because dropout is high when school costs pile up, each family receives a monthly allowance based on its standard of living, so that keeping a child in class does not become a burden. Students also meet Khmer professionals with inspiring careers, to discover what they might become.
“A scholarship is not charity for a day. It is a hand held out until a child can walk to the finish line alone.”
